On Thursday 15th June 2006, Link Up launched the new all about U project. The event was held at Harrow Arts Centre where we celebrated the achievements of some of our clients. Harrow’s Mayor, councillor Janet Cowan and other members of the council were just a few of the people who attended the impressive launch. Archie introduced Emily to the stage to talk about her work experience at Link Up. "Link Up have given me the opportunity to learn basic office skills. They also arranged a work placement for me at Harrow Association of Voluntary Service. Before I joined Link Up, I spent most of my time at home but now I am a very independent person."
Emily gets ready to take to the stage. Ranu introduced Nazia Hussein, one of our newest members on the Transitions Project. She is 25 years old and is also a carer for her mother. She recited one of her poems for the first time with thought provoking sincerity. Shradha Savani performed a Bollywood dance with graceful hand movements and a big confident smile! She looked really beautiful in her gorgeous turquoise outfit. The presentations finished off with a big finale by Michael Jackson a.k.a Elliot Rosen! Elliot danced Michael Jackson moves with high energy and a cheeky smile to "Billie Jean". Max from Shaftesbury High School serenaded the audience with smooth tones from his saxophone. This is a remarkable effort as he only picked up the saxophone 3 months ago!
At the end of the presentations we held a networking session over a buffet lunch and this was then followed by a CV writing workshop for our clients with learning disabilities. This was run by Elaine Barton and Maggie Fekete from Connexions. We would like to say special thank you to everyone who took part in making the launch a huge success. Thank you also to Choices for All, who provided the superb catering.
