In 2006 Link Up decided to run a pilot project in Beauty and Complementary Therapies for some of our young ladies with Learning Disabilities. We wanted to pamper our clients and also educate to them that their image communicates to others not just how they see themselves but also how they wish to be seen.

Link Up contacted Hansa Thakarer who runs a beauty salon from her home in North Harrow where she offers various therapies and beauty treatments. Together we arranged a short practical course to demonstrate how to keep a glowing skin, shiny hair, perfect make up tips and power dressing to help raise their self esteem and integrate them into the working world. During the course our young ladies were taught skills in Indian head massage, reflexology, skin care, nail care, beauty essentials and aromatherapy at a pace they can understand.

User friendly handouts were handed out at the end of each session so they could practise on others. Hansa was very accommodating and sensitive to the needs of our young ladies. She explained everything in a simple and gentle manner. By the end of the second session everyone bonded really well with new friendships being developed.
