Volunteer Training

We have a  number of exciting projects you could get involved with.

We want to include people in a positive way in order to encourage them to make a difference in the community.

What can we offer you?

Friendship    Training    Fun    New Skills    Ongoing Support    Outings

Workshops    Art and Culture    Enjoyable new interests

There are many ways of getting involved:

Support our clients in developing ICT skills at our 1:1 Computer Club

Karaoke time at our 1:1 Junior Club!  The club runs once a month where our volunteers engage our clients in various activities such a s pottery making, cooking, art and craft etc.

You could help out at various outings.  This photo was taken at Legoland 2004.  Other outings we have been on include a trip to Whipsnade Zoo, ten pin bowling, Thorpe Park, picnics and many more!

We run a nightclub for all our clients over 18.  The atmosphere is always buzzing.  We are always looking for volunteers who can help with the setting up and making sure things run smoothly on the night.

If you are at school or college, could you hold a fund raising event eg mufti day?

You could get involved in a 1:1 friendship. By building a friendship you could make a big difference in somebody's life.

In 2004, two of our volunteers were given achievement awards by the Harrow Observer.  Anish Raitatha won 1st prize in the Young Volunteer category with runner-up prize going to Abi Selva.  Both have provided on-going support and commitment to our clients.

You can make a real difference.....

Why do people volunteer?

People volunteer for many different reasons.  Mostly, they have some time to spare and want to do something, which is both helpful and enjoyable.  Volunteering with Link Up is very flexible and rewarding.

Why do people need friends?

We all need friends to share things with and to help us at times.  People with learning disabilities enjoy having friends who are not from their family or care group.

It helps them to:

Create links with the wider community

                           Develop their natural gifts

Increase their self-esteem

Feel valued

Be more independent

Give something of themselves, which is valued by others

What are we looking for?

You don't have to be an expert.  We are looking for people who are:

Friendly    Reliable     Willing to learn     Sensitive to the needs of others

Your Rewards

Volunteering for Link up can strengthen your CV and will be of great value in any future employment.  We can offer you practical experience which will allow you to develop personally and professionally.  It's also a great opportunity to put your existing skills into practice.
